The Lone Star Lariats are a country western dance team that prepares each year to compete in the annual International Association of Gay and Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs (IAGLCWDC) competition.

The Lone Star Lariats were founded in August 2002 by a group of individuals who just loved the idea of dancing. The team quickly evolved to one that performed in both local and out of state locations.  They became true competitors, both as a team and individually, in the gay dance circuit which consists of the International Association of Gay and Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs (IAGLCWDC), Texas Gay Rodeo Association (TGRA), International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA), and the United Country Western Dance Club (UCWDC) just to name a few, and at the same time, built incredible, lifelong friendships.

The Lariats also perform dance exhibitions, conduct social affairs, participate in charitable events, and always stay close to the most up to date GLBT issues.  The Lariats have always prided themselves as a club that is open to any and all persons, regardless of sexual preferences and does not discriminate against anyone.  They have had couples dance with them, they have had straight dancers, gay and lesbian, and the dancing and enjoyment was and always is the primary focus.

Because not everyone likes the idea of competing and traveling to dance events, the Lariats opted to have two individual dance teams.  We have a team that is considered our Competition Team, meaning when the team chooses to compete in a dance event, they get together, work the routines, and ultimately compete.  We also have a Social Team.  This team was created for those individuals who love the idea of dancing as a group, learning new tricks and techniques, but are not comfortable or do not have the desire to participate in the competitive side of dancing.  Because of these two teams, the Lariats are able to perform at many local exhibitions, attend different charitable functions, and take on a bigger role in our community.

The home bar for the Lariats has always been the Brazos River Bottom (BRB).  You will see the Lariats dancing there most lesson nights and most certainly you will see a few of them, if not all of them, on a Saturday night, boot-scootin the night away.

This year the Lariats are organizing the 2010 Charity Calendar. Help us out!
